This footage was shot in 2023, and she was also one of the earliest models I ever worked with. We first met in 2014, and over the past twelve years, we’ve gone through quite a lot together. Her hair has been cut many times in between, and many things have happened along the way. After all, twelve years is a long time, and cutting it and growing it back again is only natural. When I first met her, her hair reached down to her thighs. She was still a student who had just graduated, and she was quite tall. I estimate that her hair was already around one meter long at the time. Her hair was also very distinctive: she had a lot of it, and naturally, it was extremely heavy and had a strong natural drape. It was noticeably heavier than most people's hair. The longest it ever got was in 2016, when it reached all the way to her knees. Eventually, she cut it because having hair that long made both work and everyday life inconvenient. Over the years, with all the different things that happened and all the various trims, I’d say she has cut it at least ten times.
This particular shoot happened because her hair had become too long, and she asked me to come over and cut it. She wanted to cut off quite a substantial portion, which put me in a difficult position—I didn't really want to cut it, but if she was going to cut it, I at least wanted the length removed to be worthwhile for filming. After talking it over for quite a while, we eventually settled on a compromise: we trimmed about 20 cm off the ends. So, even after the cut, she still had long hair, but it was a little more manageable for everyday life. She kept the hair that was cut off.
I was honestly quite surprised by how heavy even that small section of ends was. It weighed around 50–60 grams, or a little over an ounce. For most people, the ends of their hair are usually the thinnest and lightest part, and even a fairly long section wouldn't weigh very much. Hers, however, was genuinely heavy. No wonder she said the constant weight of her hair made her scalp hurt.
The main purpose of this shoot was still to showcase her hair. In the end, we only trimmed the ends slightly—the goal was to let her keep as much of her long hair as possible...
